Aedifica organises 10 musical events for its residents in the Netherlands
Aedifica cares deeply about its residents and always tries to go the extra mile. In 2020, as part of our community engagement programme, we treated two care residences in the Netherlands to a classical concert by the Philomela Foundation. Both musical events were highly appreciated by our residents. Therefore, Aedifica will organise 10 new concerts in its Dutch care residences in 2021.
With our community engagement programme, we want to further develop a dialogue with the people who live in our properties: our elderly and their caretakers.

During these events, mezzo-soprano Merel Huizinga, accompanied on the piano, will perform, amongst others, the concert L’amour est un oiseau, which includes well-known Italian, French and Dutch classical music. The performances are completely coronaproof and will be organised outside. This way, everyone can keep their distance and the residents can choose whether they want to attend the concert in the open air, or rather watch it from behind their bedroom window.
We specifically chose this initiative because music is an important tool within elderly and dementia care. Music can bring back forgotten memories and improves the social and emotional state of residents. In addition, a concert is a nice way to thank the care personnel.

Philomela is a Dutch non-profit organisation that wants to connect people from different cultures, ages or social backgrounds through classical music in an accessible and interactive way. The foundation organises concerts for and with people with care needs, migrants and children and tries to make people enthusiastic for music, for each other and for others. Philomela creates specific music programmes for the elderly and performs recitals in care homes on a regular basis.
